On March 9th, 2019, an internal seminar was held at IESR regarding newly unveiled draft of Guangzhou Comprehensive Urban Plan 2017-2035 that aims to transform Guangzhou into a beautiful, dynamic and modern city by 2035.
Various experts where invited to share their professional opinion and give some valuable recommendations to it. Scholars working on urban planning, urban economics, finance and public management in Sun Yat-Sen University and Jinan University, together with various experts from real estate and banking areas, had joined together for a discussion.
They talked through the key points addressed in the plan (urban scale, city orientation, urban structure, etc.), evaluated the reasonableness of the construction goals and proposed some changes.
As IESR Associate Dean and organizer of this seminar Sisi Zhang pointed out, the researchers at our Center for Policy Research pay close attention to the development needs of Guangdong Province as well as the whole country, and thus are willing to provide research-based support to the policy makers. Sisi Zhang assured that in the future IESR will continue to conduct seminars like this to further an exchange between academia, government and various businesses.
